Structural characterization of functional defects

Structural Characterization of Functional Defects

Complex oxides usually react against stress, interfacial dissimilarity or size effects in an intricate way involving cooperative structural, chemical and electronic local perturbations which determine the functionality of the nanostructures. A part of our activity is devoted to the understanding of the atomic and chemical structure of defects (heterointerfaces, twin walls, dislocations) using state of the art transmission and scanning/transmission electron microscopies combined with electron electron energy loss spectroscopy.
